Tangail Jubo League leader sent to jail

A court here yesterday sent a Jubo League leader to jail when police produced him before it.

The Court of Senior Judicial Magistrate gave the order.

Gopalpur upazila Jubo League Convener Ashrafuzzaman Azad was arrested on Tuesday with Yaba tablets and heroin.

A joint team of Gopalpur police and Tangail DB police arrested Azad from Nandanpur area with 201 Yaba pills and one gram of heroin, said Hasan Al Mamun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gopalpur Police Station.

Azad, also general secretary of Gopalpur Truck Owners' Association, and son of late Abdur Rouf of Nandanpur in Gopalpur municipality, had been conducting the illegal trade of drug peddling for long, the OC said.

Mamun said Azad is under trial in 16 criminal cases.
