Attack on college girl: Sylhet in uproar for justice

Cries demanding justice echoed through all corners of Sylhet today as college girl Khadiza Begum, victim of a ruling party man’s machete attack, lies in hospital fighting for life.

Students and teachers of Sylhet Government Women’s College arranged a protest rally in the city around 10:00am this morning and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the District Administration.

Later, they blockaded the Amberkhana-Zindabazar road in front of the college. The students said they will continue their protest until Khadiza gets justice, reports our Sylhet correspondent.

MC College students also today formed a human chain at the college gate at Tilagarh area.

Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) and Sylhet Women's College Alumni Association also formed separate human chains in front of Sylhet Central Saheed Minar.

Several hundred people of Hausa, the village of Khadiza in Sadar, blockaded Sylhet-Sunamganj highway to press home their demand for exemplary punishment of the BCL leader.

Badrul Alam, senior assistant secretary of the BCL unit at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) hacked Khadiza indiscriminately Sylhet on Monday.

Badrul was caught red handed and beat up by some students along with locals soon after the attack. He was later handed over to police.

Khadiza, currently on life support is undergoing treatment at Square Hospitals Limited in Dhaka.
