A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League blocked the Sylhet-Tamabil highway at Tilagarh point in the city today in protest of the murder fellow activist Tanim Khan.

They also called an indefinite strike at Murari Chand College and Sylhet Government College, our Sylhet correspondent reports quoting Sanjoy Chowdhury, former joint secretary of Sylhet dist BCL.

Tanim, son of Ismail Khan of Burunga village in Osmaninagar upazila and a BA (pass) final year student of Sylhet Government College was stabbed to death allegedly by his rivals in Tilagarh Point area last night.

He was a member of the district Awami League faction led by the youth and sports secretary Ranjit Sarkar, said his classmates.

The indefinite strike and road block will continue until police arrest the murderers of Tanim, said Sanjoy, a supporter of the Ranjit faction.

Following the strike, academic activities of both the colleges have been severely disrupted as the activists locked the college gates and took position in front of the gates, reports our correspondent after visiting the college areas.

An interim exam and classes scheduled for today (Monday) could not be held following the BCL strike as students failed to reach the college on time, said Nitai Chandra Chanda, principal of Murari Chand College.

The activists also took position at different parts of the highway which is creating heavy gridlock at Shibganj road and Eidgah road, the correspondent said.

Law enforcers have been deployed to avoid any untoward situation, said Akhter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shahporan Police Station.
