Syed Haq to be buried in Kurigram

Eminent litterateur Syed Shamsul Haq will be buried tomorrow at his ancestral village home in Kurigram.

At first, his body will be taken to Channel-i premises at 10:00am tomorrow and then to Bangla Academy at 10:30am.

Later, it will be taken to Central Shahid Minar in Dhaka at 11:00am for people to pay last tribute to him.

Haq’s first namaj-e-janaza will be held at Dhaka University Central Mosque after Zohr prayers and then his body will be taken to Kurigram by a helicopter.

After another namaj-e-janaza there, the poet will be buried adjacent to Kurigram Government College as per his last wish.

Meanwhile, Haq’s body was taken to his Gulshan house tonight where people from different socio-cultural and political bodies rushed to show their respects to the late poet and extend their sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, among others, went there.

Earlier this evening, the renowned poet-playwright-novelist passed away at United Hospitals in Dhaka at the age of 81.

He left behind his wife Anwara Syed Haq, son Ditio Syed-Haq, daughter Bidita Sadi and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

He received the Bangla Academy Award in 1966, Ekushey Padak in 1984 and Swadhinata Padal Award in 2000 for his contributions to Bangla literature.

His literary works were included in the curricula for Bengali literature at secondary, higher secondary and graduation levels in Bangladesh.
