Swechchhasebok Dal leader among 2 killed in Rajshahi

Two people including a union-level leader of Swechchhasebok Dal, volunteer wing of the BNP, have been killed in separate incidents in northern district of Rajshahi.

Police retrieved the body of Altaf Mahmud Shonar, 32, Swechchhasebok Dal president of Amerkuchchho union, this morning, our local correspondent reports.

The body, with a slit throat, was found in a pond near his house in Shahpara village, said Abul Azad Kalam, officer-in-charge of Baghmara police station. 

“Altaf was missing since last evening. He was last seen in local market,” victim’s cousin Mamunur Rashid said.

Meanwhile, a man named Ahsan Habib Atel, 30, was allegedly hacked dead by neighbours in Rajshahi city area, his family alleged. Two people have been detained in this connection.

His body was found in a veranda of Chandripur area in the city around 8:00am this morning, said Mahmudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the city police.

“Ahsan had a long term conflict with our neighbors, and they are the ones who killed my son,” alleged Shukhi Begum, the victim’s mother.

“Last night while Ahsan was returning home, five people cornered him and hacked him to death,” the OC said, adding “Two of the five miscreants have been arrested.

A bloody machete and knife were found from a neighbour’s house. But its residents, Gias and Arif are in hiding. Two people Riko and Limon were arrested.
