Suspect Ismail remanded over Rajon killing

A Sylhet court today gave police five days to grill in custody Ismail Hossain – a suspect in the murder of 13-year-old boy Rajon.

Detained yesterday over Rajon’s murder, local police produced Ismail at court this morning and sought to take him in seven-day remand.

Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Farhana Yasmeen granted five days of remand after hearing around 11:30am, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.

The boy died under brute torture over what the assaulters said was “theft crime”. The entire incident was filmed by a laughing aide and was later exposed on the social media.

The video sparked outrage in Bangladesh and abroad with cries demanding justice for the murder.

Yesterday, Bangladeshi community in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, helped local police catch Kamrul Islam, who was seen most active in beating the minor in the widely circulated video.

So far, three people have been arrested over the murder – prime accused in the case Muhit Alam, a woman Lipi Begum, wife of Kamrul Islam, and suspect Ismail Hossain.

Muhith is already under a five-day remand.
