SC seeks stats of pending civil, criminal cases with lower courts

The Supreme Court administration today sought for the statistics of the civil and criminal cases pending with all the lower courts across the country till December 31 last year on an urgent basis.

All the district and sessions judges have been requested to send the details of the numbers of the pending cases to the office concerned of the High Court Division of the SC by 2pm today so that Law Minister Anisul Huq can deliver a statement on this issue in the question-answer session of parliament.

Sanjia Sarwar, assistant registrar (bench officer) of the High Court Division issued a notice to this effect under instruction from the authorities concerned of the SC today.

According to the notice, the district and sessions judges have to provide with the total numbers of pending civil and criminal cases, the total cases pending for five years and more than five years.

More than 27.5 lakh cases were pending with the lower courts across the country till June last year, SC sources said.
