Sugar mill staff for wage hike

Workers and employees of Pabna Sugar Mill Ltd staged a demonstration in front of the deputy commissioner's office yesterday to press home their 19-point demand including wage hike.

They also handed over a memorandum to DC Rekha Rani Balo in this regard.

Pabna Sugar Mill Workers' Union President Ibrahim Hossain at the rally said other professionals came under national pay scale from July 1 in 2015, but the sugar mill workers have unfortunately not got the pay scale till now. 

He also urged the government to ensure national pay scale for the sugar mill workers with effect from July 1, 2015.

The sugar mill workers demanded fixing of their minimum wage at Tk 8500.

If their demands are not met within November, they will go for a tougher agitation, said the workers.
