'Stalker who killed' schoolgirl in Sunamganj held

Police have arrested the "stalker who killed" a schoolgirl over an alleged affair in Sunamganj last Saturday.

Yahiya Sardar, 22, who stabbed Humaira Akhter Munni, 16, in her residence, was arrested from Sylhet Sadar on the wee hours of today, our local correspondent reports.

Dhirai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mostafa Kamal told The Daily Star the accused was taken to Sunamganj this morning and will be produced before court in the murder case.

Another Tanvir Ahmed, said to be a friend of Yahiya and his aide to the murder, has also been arrested, last Monday, over the murder of the schoolgirl.

Yahiya, said to be the stalker of the schoolgirl and a rotten egg, murdered schoolgirl Munni in her Dhirai residence on the night of December 16.

Bangla daily Prothom Alo quotes Sunamganj police’s Superintendent Md Barkatullah Khan to report that police are suspecting Munni refused a love proposal from Yahiya.
