Son 'kills' mother, attempts suicide in Ctg

A youth reportedly tried to commit suicide after ‘killing’ his mother by slitting her throat in Gosaildanga area of Chittagong city today.

The deceased was identified as Kumkum Chowdhury, 42, wife of Sukhamoy Chowdhury of Satkania upazila in the district, reports our Chittagong correspondent.

Sumit Chowdhury, 20, who allegedly killed her mother with a sharp weapon (Bonti), is now undergoing treatment for injuries on his neck at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) under police custody, said police.

The incident of took place between 12:30pm and 1:00pm, said AKM Mohiuddin Selim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bandar Police Station.

Sumit primarily admitted of killing his mother, he further said.

Kumkum used to live in the rented residence with her two sons, while her husband, an income tax lawyer, works in Dhaka.
