Slack security, Sust VC says over attack on Zafar Iqbal

There was slack in security provided to Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, Shahjalal University’s Vice Chancellor AKM Farid Uddin said today reflecting on the knife attack on the eminent educationist.

"If it happened to him (Prof Zafar Iqbal), then where is our security? The security measure given to him was thin and it has been proved through the attack," he said at a press conference.

The VC of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) was speaking this evening in reflection to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Mia’s claim of no lapse in security given to Prof Zafar Iqbal.

"I talked to the inspector general of police (IGP) about the incident and he assured me to investigate to the matter properly," the Sust VC said in the press conference, adding that the IGP “informed that efforts are underway to take the university campus under a strict security system”.

Besides, the SUST university authority has formed a three-member probe committee headed by Abdul Gani, dean of the Social Science faculty of the university, to investigate the matter, Jahir Uddin Ahmed, proctor of the university told our local correspondent.

Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal was knifed on stage yesterday, at Sust campus when he was attending a competition show. Now, he is said to be out of danger.
