Six jailed for gambling

A mobile court here yesterday sentenced six people to four days imprisonment and fined three others Tk 100 each for gambling.       

The convicts are Suresh Chandra Barman, 45, son of Mohesh Chandra Barman, Mokhlesur Rahman, 35, son of Fazlur Rahman, Shahid Ali, 28, son of Nakibar Rahman, Md Selim, 40, son of Sohir Uddin, Md Mazed, 28, son of Motiur Rahman, and Bhadru Barman, 29, son of Jogadman Barman.

The court fined Bijoy Barman, 31, son of Damalu Barman, Md. Babul, 43, son of Md. Hammad Ali, and Hafizur Rahman, 45, son of Mohosin Ali, for the same offence.    

 All the nine gamblers hail from different villages of Baragaon and Balia unions under Thakurgaon Sadar upazila. 

Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided Bhulli Bazar in Sadar upazila around 1:00am yesterday and arrested the nine from a room of a house at the bazar.

The arrestees were later produced before the mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Zakir Hossain, who delivered the verdict.
