Six fined for smoking

A mobile court here yesterday fined six people each Tk 300, in default, to suffer three months' imprisonment for smoking in public at the court complex yesterday.

The court, led by Executive Magistrate Kaberi Jalal, gave the verdict against the accused.

Of the convicts, Idris Ali, 47, hails from Charaikhola village of Sadar upazila, and Moksed Ali, 30, Shafiqul Islam, 40, Habibur Rahman, 45, Sirajul Islam, 50, and Mazidul Islam, 48, are from Dakkhin Sonakhuli village of Dimla upazila.

They, however, were released after paying the fine.

Police said the convicts openly smoked on the crowded compound of Nilphamari District and Sessions Judge’s Court, causing inconvenience to others.
