Shrimp fry seized in Patuakhali,12 held

Police arrested 12 people and seized a truck loaded with five lakh shrimp fry worth about Tk 15 lakh from the toll plaza of Patuakhali Bridge on Patuakhali-Barisal road in the district on Saturday night.

The arrestees are Rezaul Hawlader, 25, Noor Mohammad, 30, Belal Sheikh, 26, Azim Mollah, 35, Abdul Karim Hawlader, 30, Mofijul Islam, 45, Jafor Mollah, 36, Jasim Gazi, 26, Hussain Sikder, 33, Amin Sarder, 25, Hafiz Talukder, 30, and Kabir Sikder, 27. They hail from different areas in Bagerhat, Gopalganj and Patuakhali districts.

They were arrested for their alleged involvement in carrying the fry to Khulna and Satkhira from Galachipa upazila in the district, said SM Ziaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Patuakhali Police Station.

The arrestees were produced before a court that sent them to jail yesterday, said the OC.
