Detectives today pressed charges against BNP Senior Vice-chairman Tarique Rahman, former ETV Chairman Abdus Salam and two others in a sedition case.

Two others accused -- Mahathir Farooki Khan and Kanak Sarwar -- were also ETV journalists.

Detective Branch Inspector Emdadul Haque, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet before the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Dhaka.

The IO showed Tarique, Mahathir Farooki Khan and Kanak Sarwar as fugitives in the charge sheet and appealed to the court to issue arrest warrants against them as they did not secure any bail. Abdus Salam is now in jail.

The court fixed September 29 to decide whether the charges brought against the four will be accepted.

Police filed the sedition case with Tejgaon Police Station on January 8 last year accusing Tarique's speech and its telecast of posing a threat to the country's sovereignty.
