Security guard killed in Ashulia 'robbery'

Alleged robbers stabbed a security guard to death during a "heist" in a readymade garment unit's warehouse in Ashulia, on the outskirts of capital Dhaka, last night.

The victim was identified as Abdus Sattar, 55, from Mohadevpur upazila of Naogaon, our Savar correspondent reports quoting a police official.

A group of armed robbers tried to break into a storeroom of the RMG unit located in Gazirchat area last night, said Mustafa Kamal, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station.

They gouged Sattar indiscriminately with sharp weapons when he tried to resist them, he added. "They managed to flee with some valuables from the storeroom."

"Sattar died on the spot. Later, on information, police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy," he said.

A process was underway to file a case in this regard until last reported this morning. However, details of what the robbers took away could not be obtained.
