Classes for secondary students: Test transmission begins

Test transmission of recorded classes for secondary students through Sangsad Bangladesh Television started this morning, aiming to minimise academic session loss as the educational institutions are closed.

Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) named the television lessons -- my school at my home – which began at 9:00am with the national anthem.

At first, a teacher -- Sonia Khan -- delivered a lecture on class VI Science, showing some photos and video clips.

Later, Abdul Hasan gave a lecture on Bangladesh and Global Studies for the students of class VI; he was followed by Masud Hasan who gave a lesson on ICT to the students of class VII.

Prof Shahedul Khabir Chowdhury, director (college and administration) of DSHE, told The Daily Star that they plan to air at least 35 classes every day.

If the programme is successful, the government will consider airing lectures for students of 11th and 12th grade soon, he added.

Sangsad Bangladesh Television channel will repeat the classes from 2:00pm to 5:00pm every day.

According to the DSHE official, there are about 90 lakh students currently enrolled in sixth to tenth grades in schools across the country.

The government shut all educational institutions from March 18, as a preventive measure against spread of the coronavirus.
