Protest against headmaster’s beating in Kurigram

Parents today blocked a road in Kurigram demanding suspension of a school headmaster on complaints of severe beating served to a student.

Goljar Hossain, headmaster of Sonalurkuthi High School in Rajarhat, beat up SSC examinee Shourav Roy for not paying fee for a function yesterday.

The student said to have paid Tk 200, a hundred taka less than the stipulated amount, for the function for outgoing SSC examinees of the school.

His classmates rushed him to Rajarhat Upazila Health Complex with serious injury to the head, our local correspondent reports quoting sources.

After the news spread, guardians rushed to the school and restrained the headmaster inside his chamber. Police later took him away to local police station.

Rajarhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Krishna Kumar Sarkar has confirmed of the development and released him last night upon a bond.

This morning, enraged guardians and students blockade the road connecting Rajarhaat to Ulipur around 9:00am demanding removal of the headmaster.

Rajarhat UNO Muhammad Rashedul Haque said the situation was later controlled by school’s management committee who assured that the headmaster will be suspended.
