2 mayors suspended again on joining office

Sylhet and Rajshahi city corporations’ mayors Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul were suspended today, hours after they rejoined their respective offices.

LGRD ministry issued two separate notices to make the suspension order effective immediately.

“Sylhet mayor received the suspension letter from the ministry concerned around 2:30pm,” Enamul Habib, chief executive officer of SCC, told our Sylhet correspondent.

The Rajshahi mayor was given the same letter this afternoon, Muhammad Anwar Pasha, deputy secretary of the RCC, told our Rajshahi correspondent.   

The suspension letters were issued as Ariful Haque was accused of two cases in Sylhet– one filed under explosive act and another filed for murder while a Rajshahi court accepted charges against Bulbul in connection with a case lodged under explosive act.

Earlier, Bulbul met the same fate on June 7, 2015 in connection with another case while Ariful on January 7, 2015, after a Sylhet court had accepted charge sheet against him in former Finance Minister SMA Kibria murder case.

Both are leaders of BNP.
