SCBA president demands new gazette on disciplinary rules for lower court judges

The Supreme Court Bar Association dominated by pro-BNP lawyers today demanded of the government to further issue a gazette notification on the disciplinary rules for lower court judges in line with the Supreme Court directives in Masdar Hossain case.

Advocated Zainul Abedin president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) also urged the government to incorporate the provision of establishing a separate secretariat for the judiciary in the required disciplinary rules.

He requested the government to amend the disciplinary rules and to further submit the rules to the Supreme Court.

SCBA president placed the demand at a press conference at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium.

SCBA secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon among others spoke at the press conference.

Meanwhile, pro Al section of the SCBA protested the demand of the SCBA president.

Advocate Md Ozi Ullah, senior vice president of the SCBA and leader of its Pro Al section said the demand placed by SCBA president Zainul Abedin is tantamount to the contempt of court as the Supreme Court has already accepted the Gazette notification issued by the government on the disciplinary rules for the lower court judges.

He said there is no scope of establishing a separate secretariat for the judiciary until the Supreme Court rules are not amended.

He made the statement at a press conference in the media centre of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court accepted the rules formulated by the government for the lower court judges.
