SCBA election begins tomorrow

The two-day annual election to Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for its 14 executive posts, including that of president and secretary, will begin from tomorrow.

The voting will start at 10:00am and continue till 5:00pm with a one-hour lunch break at the bar building, SCBA Superintended Nimesh Chandra Das told The Daily Star.

He said a total of 5,081 lawyers have been enlisted to exercise their voting rights and the result is likely to be announced on Thursday night.

The main contest in the election would take place between the ruling Awami League-backed candidates and BNP-Jamaat-backed candidates, SCBA sources said.

AL lawmaker and former law minister Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru, BNP leader and former SCBA president Advocate Zainul Abedin and Advocate Eunus Ali Akond are contesting as candidate for the post of president of SCBA.

Former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Advocate Robiul Alam Budu, incumbent SCBA secretary and former BNP lawmaker Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Advocate Ashoke Kumar Ghosh and Advocate Abu Yahia Dulal are contesting for the post of SCBA secretary.
