SC receives Ekattor videos on ‘sub-judice’ matter

The Supreme Court today received the video recording of a private satellite channel Ekattor TV on a report and talk show on a conversation between two judges.

A two-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana fixed Tuesday for passing an order in this regard.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam submitted the video cassette on behalf of the Ekattor TV as per an earlier order of the Supreme Court.

The Television Channel on August 10 aired a report and a talk show on the conversation between the two SC judges which sub-judice matter during proceedings of a contempt of court rule against Janakantha editor and Publisher Atiquallah Khan Masud and Executive Editor Swadesh Roy.

The attorney general on August 11 told reporters the SC ordered on that day to submit the video report to examine whether the channel committed any contempt of court by broadcasting the news and holding the talk show on a sub-judice matter.

The SC on August 13 delivered a verdict on the contempt of court rule against Masud and Roy.

The court on August 13 sentenced them to confinement in the court room for three hours and fined them Tk 10,000 each for committing contempt of court by publishing an article on July 18 over war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury’s family members.
