A Rajshahi University student was electrocuted today while setting up a flag stand for a programme scheduled to be held tomorrow.

Samiul Islam Saad, a second year student of computer science and engineering department of the university, was working to organise a programme titled "National High School Programming Contest", reports our RU correspondent.

The accident took place around 7:30pm, an eyewitness told The Daily Star.

Chairman of the department, Professor Dr Ekramul Hamid said, "We are deeply shocked at the incident.

"Tomorrow's programme has been postponed at the death of our student."

Saad received electric shock as the iron pipe of the flag stand touched an electric wire above it, the teacher added.

The fellow student rushed Saad to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 7:55pm.
