Rohingya crisis: Decision of forming ‘joint working group’ an uncertain process, says BNP

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today termed the decision of forming joint working group by Bangladesh and Myanmar to repatriate the Rohingya refugees as an "uncertain process."

"It is totally an uncertain matter. Our government has proved its incapability through the decision of forming the joint working group," Fakhrul came up with the remarks hours after Bangladesh and Myanmar decided to form a joint working group for the repatriation of Rohingyas.

Blaming government for its failure to convince the international community over the Rohingya issue, Fakhrul said Bangladesh has plunged into a deep crisis but the prime minister or any high-ups of the government has yet not visit any countries to garner their supports.

Fakhrul was addressing a programme organised by pro-BNP cultural front Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sanskritik Sangastha at the Kachikacha Auditorium in Segunbagicha of Dhaka this afternoon.

Calling upon the government to hold a national convention for national unity on the Rohingya issue, Fakhrul said, a delegation comprising top leaders of all political parties can be sent abroad to end the crisis.

Earlier in the day, Kyaw Tint Swe, a minister of Myanmar State Counsellor Office, during a meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali proposed to form a "joint working group" to repatriate its Rohingya nationals, who fled the country following persecution in Rakhine state.
