Robi fined Tk 4.10 lakh for duping customers

A government agency today fined private mobile phone operator Robi Tk 4.10 lakh for duping three customers in different offers.

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection slapped the penalty on Robi after the hearing on a customer's complaint, said Shaheen Ara Mamataz, the deputy director of the agency.

On February 11, a customer Shohag recharged Tk 98 to avail an offer made by Robi of 1.5 GB data however he received only 1 GB data.

After getting the evidence the DNCRP fined Robi Tk 2.50 lakh, said Mamataz.

“The customers also complained to the operators call centre but found no remedy and that’s why they face this fine,” she said.

Another customer Md Saiful on February 13 recharged Tk 28 against an offer to enjoy movies all day through a specific link but he did not found anything on that link. Of this duping, DNCRP fined Robi Tk 1.50 lakh.

Against another complaint, the directorate fined Robi Tk 10,000. Robi representative also take part all the case hearings.

“Customers will get 25 percent of this fine according to the law,” Mamataz said. She also directed Robi to pay the fines within next five day.

The Daily Star contacted Robi for their comment but found no reply.

This is the second time Robi faced this type of fine by the DNCRP. Other top operators, Grameenphone and Banglalink, were also fined by the same directorate recently against the complaints of customers.
