'Robber' shot, 2 cops hurt in encounter

An alleged robber and two police constables were admitted to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMC) after an encounter near the town's Silimpur graveyard around 2:30am yesterday, police said.

“Informed that a gang gathered at Silimpur graveyard of Bogra suburb as preparation for robbery early Monday, a patrol team of Sadar Police Station went to the spot. Seeing the law enforcers, the robbers threw cocktails, causing injuries to constables Ansar Ali and Sirajul Islam,” said Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) Sonaton Chakraborty.

“As police shot five rounds of shotgun bullets in self-defence, robber Mokhles Pradhan, 28, son of Abul Pradhan of Panial village of Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha, was shot while the other robbers escaped,” he said.

The three injured were admitted to SZMC, police said, adding that two sharp weapons and remains of exploded cocktails were seized from the spot.
