Robber killed in 'gunfight' with Rab

An alleged robber was killed in a gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Bhaturia village in Harinakundo upazila of the district on Tuesday night.

The law enforcers also recovered a shutter-gun and two bullets from the spot

Rab said the deceased, Amirul Islam Pancha, 44, an accused in at least 13 cases, was a member of an inter-district robber gang.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Golam Morshed, commander of Jhenidah Rab-6, said a gang of robbers opened fire on them while they were performing duty at a check-post around 11:30pm.

In retaliation, they also fired back that triggered a gunfight, the ASP said, adding that Pancha came in the line of fire and died on the spot.
