'Robber' killed in 'gunfight’ with Narayanganj cops

An alleged robber was killed in a “gunfight” with detectives in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj early today.

Deceased Riad Sharif, 30, son of Mohammad Ali of Majhipara area of Rupganj, was accused in multiple robbery cases, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.

Detective Branch of police also arrested two robbers -- Al Amin and Alif, aged between 25 and 30 -- after the alleged gunfight, Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Naryanganj DB, told the correspondent.  

Police recovered foreign pistol loaded with four bullets, one machete and a big knife from the spot, OC Mahbubur Rahman said.

Riad along with his gang was heading towards Kanchan Bridge area to carry out a robbery.

Sensing presence of the detectives, the robbers started firing at the police, who retaliated with bullets triggering the “gunfight”.

Later, Riad’s bullet-hit body was found on the spot, the OC said.

The body has been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy, he added.
