‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Jhenidah cops

An alleged robber was killed in a “gunfight” between his cohorts and police in Shailakupa upazila of Jhenidah early today.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately, reports our Jhenidah correspondent quoting police.

A gang of robbers were trying to commit robbery on Jhenidah-Kushtia highway near Dudshar Ashrayan Project (a shelter for the underprivileged people) area around 3:00am, said Additional Superintendent of Jhenidah police Azbahar Ali Seikh.

As soon as a patrol team of police reached there, the criminals opened fire targeting the cops, forcing them to retaliate triggering a “gunfight”, the ASP said.

After the 10-minute “gunfight”, the gang managed to flee the scene, the police official added.

Later, police found a bullet-riddled body lying on the ground, he said.

Two police personnel were also hurt during the “gunfight”, the ASP claimed.

The law enforcers recovered a shutter gun and two bullets from the spot.
