‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’, another dies by mob in Mymensingh

An alleged robber was killed in a reported gunfight with law enforcers while his associate died by mob in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh early today.

One of the deceased was identified as Robbani, 27, hailing from Bogra, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

On information that a gang of eight to ten robbers was committing robbery at Boilor in the upazila early hours of today, a team of detectives rushed to spot, said Syed Nurul Islam, superintendent of Mymensingh Police.

Local people caught one of the “robbers” red-handed and beat him to death before the members of Detective Branch of police reached the scene. However, the other robbers fled the scene boarding two pickup vans, said the SP.

When the police team reached Jhitka, a nearby village of Boilor, in the same upazila, the “robbers’’ opened fire. In retaliation, the detectives fired 23 bullets, SP Nurul said.

During the “gunfight” Robbani sustained bullet wounds and died on the spot.

The bodies were kept at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue.
