'Robber' found killed, police say died in 'gunfight'

The body of a robber, who was killed in what police claimed 'gunfight between two gangs,' was found on the outskirts of Meherpur town yesterday. 

The deceased was Khadimul Islam, 28, son of Rezaul Islam of Shishu Baganpara area in the town.

Wanted in six cases, Khadimul was a listed robber, said Meherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Robiul Islam.

Deceased's relatives said Khadimul was arrested for his alleged involvement in robbing a maize buying centre on Friday.

The OC said they received information that two groups of robbers were engaged in gunfight at a field near Brac office on the outskirts of the town.

A relative of the victim said police arrested five people including Khadimul on Monday night.

He said police produced four people, except Khadimul, before a court. The court sent them to jail.
