'Robber' beaten dead in Tangail

A mob beat dead an alleged robber in Ghatail upazila under the district early yesterday.

A gang with a microbus and a pick-up was preparing to commit robbery on Sagardighi-Bharadoba Road at Sholakuri in Ghatail around 1:30am, when locals caught one of them and beat him dead, said Mohammad Kamal Hossain, OC of Ghatail Police Station.

The deceased, aged around 30, could not be identified.

Later, locals caught three more robbers when they were trying to flee on the microbus.

The three -- Nahid Hossain, 20, of Tangail, Delwar Hossain, 28, of Chandpur, and Sumon Khan, 34, of Dhaka, were handed over to police.
