‘Robber’ killed in 'gunfight' with Bagerhat lawmen

An alleged robber was killed and his aide injured with bullet in a “shootout” with law enforcers in the Sundarbans under Sharankhola range of Bagerhat early today.

Police identified the deceased as Bellal Faraji, 35, son of Khokon Faraji of North Saralia village in Morrelganj upazila of the district, our Bagerhat correspondent reports quoting Md Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Sharankhola Police Station.  

Bullet-hit Farhad Munshi, 37, was rushed to the local upazila health complex under police custody.

The gunfight started around 2:30am when a joint force, comprising Rapid Action Battalion, coastguard and police, conducted a raid at an abandoned garden where the robbers gathered for holding a meeting.

The law enforcers recovered three firearms and 500 bullets.
