‘Robber’ killed in Comilla ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed and three others were injured in what law enforcers termed a gunfight between his cohorts and detectives in Comilla Sadar Dakkhin upazila early today.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Kader, 35, son of Sahadat Hossain of Bharanikhanda village in Monoharganj upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a drive at Perul on Comilla-Laksam road around 3:30am, said Shah Kamal Akanda, a sub-inspector of Comilla DB police.

Sensing presence of the DB police, the robbers opened fire to them and the law enforcers also retaliated with firing, triggering a “gunfight” between them.

During the "gunfight", four robbers, including Kader, were injured. Kader died on way to Comilla Medical College Hospital while two of them were taken to the hospital, SI Akanda said.

Three policemen, including a sub-inspector and two constables, were injured in the gunfight. They were given first aid, SI Akanda added.

Police detained eight robbers while fleeing the scene.

Police recovered a shotgun, three LGs, five sharp weapons and several bullets from the spot.

Abdul Kader was accused of several cases filed with Monoharganj and Laksam Police Station.
