Rajshahi University and Chittagong University students have demonstrated in solidarity with the protest for safer roads in Dhaka.

Students of Rajshahi University demonstrated for one-and-half hours blocking Rajshahi-Dhaka highway in protest this morning.

They hit the street around 9:30am near the campus’ main gate and held their position till 11:00am, our Rajshahi staff correspondent reports.

While withdrawing today’s agitation, they said such demonstrations will continue till their demands for safer roads are realised.

Several hundred students of Chittagong University formed a human chain in the university’s Central Shaheed Minar this morning.

Apart from demanding justice for the death of BUP student Abrar, they are also protesting the accident of one of their fellows last night.

A fourth-year student Mehedi Hasan was injured after a speeding vehicle hit him on the campus gates last night, said Assistant Sub-inspector Alauddin Talukder of Chattogram Medical Collge and Hospital’s police outpost.

This led to protests last night and police action on students.

“Police pounced on us and charged batons,” alleged Maruf Islam, a master’s student of the International Relations department.

The last two days in Dhaka was swept by students demonstrating for safer roads following the death of Abrar Ahmed, a student of Bangladesh University of Professionals.
