Savar RMG worker gang-raped for failing to pay house rent

A garment worker has been reportedly gang-raped by her house owner and three others in Ashulia area after the victim and her husband failed to pay house rent for a month.

Police arrested house owner Md Kalam, 45, after the 22-year-old victim filed a case with Ashulia Police Station today.

According to the case statement, the victim with her family had been living in Kalam’s house for last one year.  The family had a feud with Kalam as they could not the pay rent of December due to financial crisis.

Around 11:30pm on Tuesday, the house owner along with three others went to victim’s room and demanded the money. As the victim and her husband sought time, the four beat them up.

At one point, they confined the husband to an adjoining room and raped the housewife, the case statement reads. 

The alleged rapists also snatch a gold chain and some other belongings of the victim.

Selim Reza, sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station, told our Savar correspondent that they are trying to arrest the other accused.
