The alleged killer of Suraiya Akter Risha, a student of Willes Little Flower School who was stabbed to death last week, was arrested in Nilphamari today.

A team of DMP along with local police arrested Obaidul Khan, 29, from a house in Domar upazila of Nilphamari around 8:00am, Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police told The Daily Star.

Obaidul is being brought to Dhaka, the DC said.

Risha, a class-VIII student of the school, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on August 28, four days after she was stabbed allegedly by the stalker, Obaidul, in front of the institution at Kakrail in the capital.

As the news of her death spread, hundreds of students launched demonstration, pressing for immediate arrest of the attacker.

Later, Tania Hossain, mother of Risha, filed a case against Obaidul under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Ramna Police Station.

The suspect waylaid Risha on her way back from the school and tried to talk to her the day before he stabbed her on the Kakrail footbridge near the school, family sources said.

Obaidul’s arrest came after his sister Khateza, 37, and her husband Khadimul, 45, were detained in Miratongi village in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur yesterday.
