'Rise High Bangladesh' at Rajshahi University

On the first day of its campus activation programme in Rajshahi, the export idea contest 'Rise High Bangladesh' found exuberant response from the students. The programme was held at RajshahiUniversity on August 23.

TukitakiChattar, a popular gathering place of university students, was selected as the venue. The well-decorated booths and colourfulbanners and posters of the contest created a festive mood in the campus.Despite regular classes and examinations,a great number of students from different departments enquired about the initiative before enthusiastically joining in the events. They appreciated the necessity and ingenuity of such a promotion of our local goods. The Rise High volunteers explained the objectives, incentives and rules of participationto them.

The most attractive part of the programme was the puzzle solving game. A large number of students participated in the contest. It required them to randomly pick out a clue card with information on different countries’ imported goods and they had to guess the country and identify it on the world map. Successful participants were given prizes. The game was arranged to engage students with the contest and to givethem an idea about the export scenario of Bangladesh, and prospects of our local products in foreign markets.

One of the successful participants, Mehedi Hasan, student of Mass Communication and Journalism Department shared, "It was an exciting experience and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was also educative for me. I must admire this initiative. I have an idea and I will look forward to forming a team and join the contest."

The university authority also responded positively when asked about the initiative. Vice-Chancellor of RU, Professor Dr. Muhammad Mizanuddin, said"This is really a great opportunity for our students. Since the university is situated in a remote area, very few national competitions are available to them. I hope our students will seize the opportunity to express their talent in a national platform. I would like to give special thanks to both The Daily Star and Crown Cement for holding such a competition. "
