RHD official assaulted, 4 siblings sued

A team of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) staff came under attack during an eviction drive in bypass area under Patgram upazila on Monday.

A case was filed accusing four siblings in this connection, said Aboni Shankar Kar, officer-in-charge of Patgram Police Station.

The accused are Sadekul Islam Sajib, Rashedul Islam Sweet, Wazedul Islam Shaheen and Jahedul Islam Sohel, sons of Abdul Jabbar of the area.

Around 80 illegal structures on 100 decimals of land of RHD in the area were demolished during the drive, said Lalmonirhat RHD Executive Engineer Sajedur Rahman.

On Monday afternoon, the RHD team started demolishing the illegal structures made by the four siblings when the latter swooped on them, he said.

They assaulted Saiful Islam, surveyor of RHD in Dhaka and Rangpur zones during the incident, the engineer said, adding that Saiful later took primary treatment at Patgram Upazila Health Complex.

“I was assaulted by the accused in presence of police but they didn't take any action due to unknown reason,” said Saiful.
