Re-election at 10 centres on Jan 12

Re-election at 10 suspended centres under Chowmuhani municipality of the district will be held on January 12.

The polling centres are Uttar Nazirpur Government Primary School, Uttar Nazirpur Nurani Madrasa, Dakkhin Nazirpur Government Primary School, Madhya Karimpur Government Primary School (Uttar Bhaban), Madhya Karimpur Government Primary School (Purba Bhaban), Ganipur Government Primary School, Begumganj Government Pilot High School, Chowmuhani SA Government College (Old Bhaban), Chowmuhani SA Government College (New Bhaban) and Uttar Hazipur Government Primary School.

Md Monir Hossain, district election officer and also the returning officer of Chowmuhani municipality, said voting at the polling centres was suspended on December 30 due to irregularities and clashes between the councillor candidates.

The Election Commission announced on Wednesday that re-election at 10 suspended centres will be held on January 12.

Awami League candidate Akhter Hossain Foysal got 7,358 votes while BNP candidate Jahir Uddin 5,763 votes at the 10 centres.

The number of voters at the 10 polling centres is 24,310, of which 12,837 are males and 11,473 females.
