Dinajpur ‘rapist’ on 7-day remand

A Dinajpur court today granted a seven-day remand of Saiful Islam who allegedly tortured and raped a five-year-old girl in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur after picking her up eight days ago.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Krishna Komol Roy passed the order after police submitted petition seeking remand of the arrestee, reports our local correspondent.

The five-year-old girl, who was brutally tortured and raped in Dinajpur on October 18, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The doctors yesterday said they found infections in her reproductive organ, and she was still in a critical condition.

Arrestee Saiful, 42, of Parbatipur's Jamirhat village in Dinajpur town, was arrested on Monday night.

On October 20, the victim's father filed a case with Parbatipur Police Station against Saiful under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, according to police.
