Rape during robbery: Ctg cops admit ‘failure’

Police today admitted failure in the investigation of the case filed over the rape of four women during a robbery in Chittagong’s Karnaphuli on December 13.

A Chittagong Metropolitan Police officer termed it a “partial failure” while speaking at a press briefing in Chittagong city today, our local staff correspondent reports.

Police failed to handle the rape case with proper attention from the start, Chittagong city police’s Deputy Commissioner (port) Harunur Rashid Hazari said at a press briefing.

“The law enforcers should take the case seriously,” he said adding “I will inform about the matter to the Chittagong police Commissioner Iqbal Bahar”.

The four victims filed the case accusing four unknown people under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Karnaphuli Police Station on December 18.

Police so far arrested three suspected persons following the case was filed with Karnaphuli Police Station.

Of the arrestees, Md Sumon alias Abu, told police recently that he worked at the house as a mason during construction work around a year ago, but denied his involvement in the incident.
