Rape accused killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A rape case accused was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar early today.

Deceased Rahim Uddin, 20, son of Akhter Ahmed of Ulubania village in the upazila, was accused in a case filed for raping a five-year-old girl in the upazila on March 26, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports quoting police.

The girl’s grandfather filed a case against Rahim with the police station on March 28,said Bakhtiar Uddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Chakaria police station.

The alleged gunfight took place between a Rab team and suspected criminals at Ulubania around 12:30am, Major M Ruhul Amin, commander of Rab-7 in Cox’s Bazar camp, told our correspondent.

After the “gunfight”, the Rab team recovered the bullet-hit body of Rahim from the spot while others managed to flee the scene, he said.

The team also recovered one shooter gun and three rounds of bullets and two bullet shells from the spot, the Rab official added.
