Rajuk director, BRTA asst director held for fraudulence

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrests four persons including an engineer, a banker and a former civil surgeon in three separate cases filed for misappropriating about Tk 11.26 crore at different times.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today arrested a director of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) and an assistant director of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) in connection with fraud cases.

A team of ACC led by its Deputy Director Rafiqul Islam arrested AKM Shafiqur Rahman, director of Purbachal housing project of Rajuk, in Segunbagicha area.  

Rahman took around Tk 81.50 lakh from one Ferdous Kabir hoping him to give a 10 katha plot in the Purbachal housing project.

Later, the project director misappropriated the money without giving him the plot, the case statement said.  

Besides, another team of the anti-corruption watchdog arrested Abu Ashraf Siddique, assistant director of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, in Ikuria area, on the outskirt of the capital Dhaka.  

Siddique is accused of at least five cases including issuing fake registration number of vehicles and misappropriation of money through this means.
