Rajshahi University teacher found dead

Rajshahi University journalism department teacher Akhtar Jahan Joly has been found dead inside her campus quarters, police said today.

Joly, an associate professor of Mass Communication and Journalism, used to live in room 303 of the Jubery Bhaban, bachelors’ quarter of the university.

Her body was found on the bed in her room around 5:00pm, our correspondent reports quoting Rajshahi University Proctor Mujibul Haque Azad Khan.

It is unclear as to how she died. “It is a suspicious matter and so we cannot say anything about her death without forensic reports,” the proctor added.

The body was taken to Rajshahi Medical College where her autopsy will be performed tomorrow, Iftekhair Alam, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) spokesperson, said.    

She was scheduled to go to Dhaka today to meet her son, Iftekhair also assistant commissioner of the RMP added.

‘SUICIDE NOTE’

Police recovered a “suicide note” reportedly written by Joly from the spot. According to the note, she “did not hold anyone responsible for her death.”

“None is responsible for my death. I took my life from physical and mental depression,” the note said.
