Hundreds of students of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department of Rajshahi University went on a hunger strike this morning demanding the publication of their year-final results as soon as possible.

Around 200 students of the department went on the strike around 10:40am in front of the department at Rabindranath Tagore Bhaban, our university correspondent reports from the spot.

The students also confined the department’s Chairman Associate Professor Abdullah Al Mamun inside his chamber.

The results of third year, fourth year and masters of the department are yet to be published even after six months of the final examinations, Mollah Mohammad Sayeed, a Masters student said.

“We have requested the department authority repeatedly to publish the result in time. But they are delaying to do it. So, we started the movement.” Sayeed said.

“We will continue this strike till our demands are fulfilled,” the masters student added.

On the other hand, the chairman of the department said he has called an emergency meeting of the academic committee and will come up with a decision soon.

RU proctor Professor Lutfor Rahman came to visit the spot and requested the students to withdraw the movement. But the students denied, the RU correspondent reports.

According to Rajshahi University act 1973, results have to be published by 60 working days after finishing the exam, our correspondent reports.
