Rail communication of Dhaka with the country’s southern and northern districts was restored six hours after a freight train derailed at Ullapara Railway Station in Sirajganj early today.

“Rail communication was resumed around 9:45am after a rescue train from Ishwardi salvaged the derailed parts of the train,” said Ullapara Stationmaster Md Shamsul Alam.

Earlier around 3:00am, six wheels of the stone-laden train from India veered off the tracks due to a human error and halted the train services, the stationmaster said.

Since then, the train services of Dhaka with Khulna, Jessore, Kushtia and Chuadanga and 16 northern districts remained suspended, he said.

Six inter-district trains got stuck at different points, he added.
