Rab unaware of family’s claim about missing Sazzad

The family of Swechchasebak League Kushtia district general secretary Sazzad Hossain Sabuj claimed that Rab picked him up this morning, but the elite force says it is unaware of the matter.

During a press conference at Kushtia Press Club this morning, Sabuj’s mother Sahida Khatun claimed that Rapid Action Battalion members detained her son from a Gazipur resort.

Sahida said plainclothes men introduced themselves as Rab and entered Dream Square Resort at Gazipur around 2:30am where Sabuj, Swechchasebak League Kushtia district president Akteruzzaman Labu and other two Swechchasebak League activists were staying.

Sahida claimed since then she could not contact her son, reports our Kushtia correspondent. 

Commander Mosaddek Ibne Mujib of Rab-12 in Kushtia told The Daily Star that Rab knows nothing about the matter.

The ruling party’s front organisation’s leaders fled the district after a clash between Jubo League and Swechchasebak League on August 15 while paying respect to a mural of Bangabandhu.

One Jubo League activist was killed in the clash.

A case was filed with Kushtia Model Police station against 20 Swechchasebak League leaders and activists including Sazzad Hossain Sabuz and Akteruzzaman Labu on August 16.

Meanwhile district administration canceled the license of firearms of the leaders on august 17.

A Swechchasebak League activist close to Sabuz was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Kushtia police on August 19.
