Thakurgaon DC

Protest on to cancel transfer order

Demonstrations demanding cancellation of the transfer order of the deputy commissioner continued in the town for the second day yesterday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Awal was transferred to Jessore on February 25.

Students of Thakurgaon Polytechnic Institute put up a barricade in front of their institute, demanding cancellation of the order.

A cross section of people took part in human chain, procession and mass signature collection on Tuesday.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad district unit General Secretary Suchorita Dev said the DC has touched people's mind with his generous activities and honesty.

People have easy access to him for telling their problems, which is why they joined the programmes to urge the authorities concerned to cancel the order, Suchorita said.

“We urge the government to cancel the order so that he can stay in the district for at least three years to implement his pro-people initiatives,” said educationist Ataur Rahman.

“I joined here on September 24 in 2016 and have tried to do my duties properly,” Awal told this correspondent. “The people showed their affection for me through holding the programmes. I am really overwhelmed with such affection, but I have to follow the government's order to join my next working station on time,” he added.
