Power plant tender: ACC quizzes PDB chairman

Anti-Corruption Commission today quizzed Bangladesh’s power authority’s chief over “awarding the contract of a Khulna power plant to a controversial Chinese company”.

ACC officials quizzed Power Development Board (PDB) Chairman Khalid Mahmud at the latter’s office this afternoon, a source of the anti-graft body told The Daily Star.

Last month, PDB awarded controversial Chinese firm, Harbin, the contract for 300MW dual-power combined cycle power plant in Khulna, allegedly through fraudulence.

The other bidders took complaints to the Prime Minister’s Office. The ACC was given the charge to investigate the incident.

Today was the first of the quizzing sessions. Other officials will be quizzed gradually, the source told The Daily Star on condition of anonymity.
